Earl P. Swonger

SALEM, OH – Earl Phillip Swonger, 73 years old, passed away on Thursday evening April 9, 2026 at Salem Regional Medical Center.

Earl was born on May 12, 1952 in Chardon, OH to James Swonger and Lyla Belle (McDaniels) Swonger. Earl grew up in Middlefield, OH.

He loved music, enjoyed singing at church, as well as playing the piano and organ.

While living in Middlefield, Earl was well respected as a reliable driver for his Amish friends, as well as delivering food for Domino’s Pizza where he earned a safe driving award.

In Earl’s younger years he attended Middlefield Wesleyan Methodist Church in Middlefield, OH, until it closed, at that time he moved to Salem, OH and became a member at The Bible Methodist Church.

Earl is survived by his brother David L. Swonger (LuAnn Guiles-Swonger) of Lititz, PA, his niece Aja Schwartz (Josh Schwartz) and his great niece Sachi of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Earl’s extended family Nathan Guiles (Karrie Guiles), Christopher Guiles (Cheryl Guiles), five great nephews, two great nieces and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family would like to thank all of Earl's caring and dedicated friends and church family for the love and care they have given him over the years.

He will be missed by all who knew him and remembered as a loving and caring friend.

Memorial services will be held at Salem Bible Methodist Church, located at 1647 North Ellsworth Avenue, Salem, OH 44460 on Saturday, May 16, 2026. The calling hour will be held from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., immediately followed by the memorial service. The Internment will be held at The Village of Middlefield Cemetery located on East High Street, (State Route 87) just East of Thompson Avenue at approximately 1 p.m.
